The New York Times Food Label
"My Dream Food Label" by Mark Bittman
New York Times food journalist Mark Bittman has a dream for a better labeling system for food, one that encourages consumers to make healthier choices by providing them with more information more quickly. We collaborated with Mark to determine how this dream label would work, determining which information it would contain and designing how that information would be communicated to consumers. We devised a scannable label, using traffic-light coding (green: eat freely! red: avoid!) as well as a rating system that is shown as a visual bar graph with a numeric rating. Whether the product contains GMOs is immediately visible. We kept the label as uncluttered as possible not only so it could communicate quickly, but also in consideration of its potential use on actual food packaging. My Dream Food Label
