Joanie Bernstein, an independent illustration rep, is one of our longest-running clients—WDW has worked with Joanie on her branding and promotional materials for more than 25 years. One of the hallmarks of a Joanie Bernstein piece is its materiality: when we design for Joanie, we always choose tactile, utilitarian materials to reflect her hardworking ethos and no-nonsense approach. For this promo, we designed a series of small saddle-stitched books—one for each of Joanie’s artists—and mailed the books out in heavyweight, screen-printed ziplock bags to thousands of designers, art directors, and art buyers. We heard from more than a few of them that the piece stood out for its thoughtful, unexpected design: exactly the reaction we (and Joanie) were hoping for.
