Above: a sampling of the previous Legacy cheese packaging. Before we got involved in the project, the logo was given a gentle facelift by Driven, Cabot’s agency partner. We gave the logo some room to breathe, isolating it from any other graphic elements—a convention we maintained across the entire Cabot cheese product line.
Cabot Legacy
Redesigning an East Coast Favorite
Did you know happy cows make better milk? Neither did we, until we started working with Cabot, a cooperative of more than 1,100 farm families in New England. Based in the rolling hills of Vermont, Cabot has been making award-winning dairy products since 1919. The brand is particularly well-known, especially on the East Coast, for its rich, flavorful cheddars.
Cabot hired WDW to redesign the packaging for its broad array of dairy and deli cheeses, with a mandate to modernize the brand without losing sight of its heritage. The Legacy Collection of aged cheddar is the first of the new packaging to hit shelves. Typographically-driven with a striking black, white, and copper color palette, the new packaging is designed to convey premium quality at dairy case prices. We had the pleasure of working with creative director Mark Johnson to bring the brand’s rustic modern strategy to life.
